Marcheta Gillam, Chair of the NCHH Board of Directors, is a senior housing attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati, where her responsibilities include all aspects of legal advocacy on behalf of low-income families that live in substandard housing. Ms. Gillam's advocacy for tenants for nearly 30 years has made her a strong advocate for lead poisoning prevention and healthy homes.
Prior to joining NCHH’s Board of Directors in March, 2006, Ms. Gillam was an inaugural Board member of the Local Leadership Council Community Environmental Health Resource Center (CEHRC). She has also served on the Cincinnati Lead Advisory Committee, the (Ohio) Governor's Committee on Environmental Lead Abatement, the Ohio Help End Poisoning Coalition, the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Environmental Health Center External Scientific Advisory Board, and as Chair of an Advisory Committee on Lead Screening for the Ohio Department of Health. She is currently a member of the Cincinnati Environmental Advisory Council. Ms. Gillam also served on the 2000 Legislative Working Group for Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and the Governor's Committee on Environmental Lead Abatement in 1995.
A UCLA graduate (B.A., 1974), she earned her J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 1979, where she received the American Jurisprudence Book Award for Constitutional Law.
