Paint Retailers and Lead: Online Training

Do you sell paint or paint products? If so, your customers probably ask you many questions to make sure they do the work correctly. You do your best to answer their questions, but are you supplying your customers with good information?

Your customers need to know that old paint may contain lead. Unless they use proper precautions, they could put themselves, their families, and any other residents at risk for lead poisoning. Lead poisoning can cause serious, permanent problems with learning, behavior, and health, especially in young children. It can even be fatal.

This course will help you learn how to give your customers the advice they need to prevent lead poisoning when working around old paint.

If you are a clerk in a paint retail store in Indiana, you may need to take this training to comply with Indiana law. You'll need to score at least 80% on the test at the end to earn a certificate of completion to document your performance.

Course Objectives:  When you complete this course, you should be able to:

  • Avoid giving out advice that will cause customers, whether contractors or homeowners, to violate the law or to contribute to the lead poisoning of a child.

  • Help customers identify and purchase the supplies they need to follow lead-safe work practices correctly when disturbing old paint.

  • Comply with Indiana’s requirements requiring training for employees who give advice to customers concerning paint and paint products.
